How can we be so cruel to animals?
I am so sickened at the treatment of animals by human beings that I felt compelled to write.
I heard in the news that a man bludgeoned three of his dogs to death with a hammer in front of his other dogs as they were made to watch.
What sort of evil individual does this? What sentence does he receive from the courts? Twenty weeks in prison and banned from keeping animals for life! Call that justice?
If this person had done the same thing to fellow human beings there would, quite rightly, have been outrage and it would have been classed as multiple murders, but because it is dogs it is just a tragic, distressing case.
I also heard that due to the recent bad weather in Scotland and the accumulation of snow, deer in the highlands are struggling to find food and many of them are dying through starvation.
It has been decided that the solution to this is that some of them should be culled!
Why can't they be supplied with food in the short term to help them out and then as soon as the snow goes and the heather is visible again, they can return to finding their own food. It's a good job we don't treat our elderly in the same way during bad weather when they are unable to get out to buy food.
Then there is the case of the killer whale in America's Disneyworld which killed its trainer, having apparently done the same thing twice before with two other trainers.
Could this have anything to do with the fact that this majestic creature is kept in a pool the size of a pond, quite often in isolation and regularly made to do tricks for people who pay money to go and watch?
Surely this is the same as keeping a person in a small box in solitary confinement for years on end is it any wonder this tragedy happens?
Killer whales normally live together in large groups and swim for miles in open seas.
Also in Canada they are due to start their annual seal cull where thousands of baby seals are bludgeoned to death and skinned (some while still alive) all for the sake of their beautiful white coats. Again if humans were killed on this scale it would be classed as genocide, but instead because it is just animals, what happens ... the men who carry out these horrendous acts get paid for doing it!
I could go on and on because every day there is another atrocity that befalls an innocent animal at the hands of humans. Civilised societies I think not.
