Great council hedge mix-up
WITH regard to the readers' letters discussing Leeds City Council and bin fines, how amused I was when reading them.
Recently three neighbours and I received letters from Leeds City Council explaining that they had received a complaint with regards to overgrown hedges to the rear of our properties and giving us two weeks to recitfy the situation or we will be fined.
However, the hedges in question are at the rear of all our properties but not on our land.
We have always been of the understanding that it belongs to Leeds City Council and they have cut the hedges in the past.
We have all said we would be happy to cut the hedge to keep the area looking tidy but the hedges in question are positioned on a blind corner on a busy road with no footpath, so we would be unable to do this without closing the road.
Here is the amusing part, that was over three months ago and have they cut the hedge? No!
I feel like sending them a letter saying it has come to our attention the hedge on your land to the rear of our properties has become extremely overgrown and if you do not cut this back within two weeks we will cut it and send you the bill.
Also, the road will need to be closed during the time we cut the hedge due to there being no footpath and being on a blind corner.
It truly does sound like Leeds City Council need to get their house in order before sending demanding letters.
