PICTURE perfect artists from across the city are invited to create a masterpiece to mark the Merrion Centre’s 50th birthday.
The YEP has joined forces with the city’s oldest shopping centre to celebrate the impressive milestone and to find a new piece of artwork to go on display at the centre.
We are on the hunt for an aspiring artist to create a commemorative piece of work that captures the true spirit of Leeds and the Merrion Centre.
The winner of the competition will receive £1,000 and will get to see their artwork on display in the centre.
The judging panel will be made up of Edward Ziff, chairman and chief executive of Town Centre Securities PLC, Marjorie Ziff, a representative from the Yorkshire Evening Post and art critic Robert Dutton.
The winner will be informed on May 22 and will be invited to the centre for the official unveiling of their artwork on May 26 – the Merrion Centre’s 50th birthday.
Edward Ziff said: “We see this as a challenge to all budding artists who really want to make a name for themselves.
“This is a momentous anniversary for us, we want to encourage creativity and pride and we’re delighted to be able to frame and host the winning piece of art in the shopping centre.”
All entrants must be over 16 years old and submit their work by Sunday, May 18.
Artwork should be sent to 50th Art Competition, Merrion Centre, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS2 8NG.
All entries should be clearly labelled with the entrant’s name, date of birth and contact details.
