West Yorkshire Police are hitting the road to spread the word about the latest recruitment campaign.

Officers will be taking their eye-catching vans to events across the area from Monday.

The vans are equipped with Virtual Reality headsets to give the public a taste of life in the force, with clips from the mounted section, dogs, driving skid pan and a response car.

The next recruitment window for police officers opens on September 11 for two weeks until September 23.

Assistant Chief Constable Angela Williams, said: “I would encourage anyone who has thought about becoming a police officer to go and meet some of our finest officers on our roadshows.

“Being a police officer is really a job like no other and I am excited to see the new talent that comes to join us here at West Yorkshire Police.”

Figures seen by the YEP show the number of officers and PCSOs employed in neighbourhood policing county-wide fell from 2,613 in 2011 to 2,191 in 2016.

The easing of austerity cuts has meant the force is increasing its manpower by 200 this year, 100 of whom will be going into neighbourhood policing roles.

Tuesday 5 September

St George’s Square, Huddersfield – 10am until 1pm

Birstall Retail Park, Kirklees – 3pm until 6pm

Wednesday 6 September

Church Green, Keighley Town Centre – 9am

Forster Square Retail Park in Bradford – 1.30pm until 5pm

Friday 8 September

Poundland, Lincoln Green Road – 9:30am – 11:15

Morrison’s Harehills Lane – 1 – 3pm

Lidl, Amberton Lane, Gipton – 4 – 5pm

Hebden Bridge 12:30pm
