it’s been a good year so far for the folk in New Wortley, and families flocked to a gala day at the weekend to mark recent successes and look forward to a bright future.

Locals have been working on several recent initiatives to make life better for fellow residents. One of them is the New Wortley ‘Our Place’ project, which is developing a community led partnership to improve the area. A plan has now been finished and submitted to the Government’s communities department.

The YEP reported earlier this year that community organisers had been successful in securing a £700,000 Big Lottery grant for a new community building. Bill Graham, from New Wortley Community Centre, said: “We continue to lead initiatives to improve the local area.”
