West Leeds: Prestigious award for Bramley War Memorial

Bramley War Memorial won a prestigious award at the 26th Leeds Architecture Awards.

The memorial won the new John Thorp Award in honour of the former Leeds City Council architect, who designed Bramley War Memorial. The War memorial was opened in 2014 following a campaign supported by local councillors, the Friends of Bramley War Memorial group and local businesses. Coun Caroline Gruen, said: “John’s support helped unlock the spirit of remembrance and his approach meant that we were able to win over hearts and minds to the design, which is very modern but also very fitting. We still pinch ourselves when we look at our memorial to know what a positive impact this is having on our community. We’ve had a number of services of remembrance at the memorial and we know how well it works to bring the community together.”
