West Leeds: Measures to improve busy junction

Major improvements are set to be made to a busy west Leeds pedestrian crossing.

Work is set to be carried out at the busy junction of Branch Road and the Ring Road in Lower Wortley.

The project will see the installation of controlled crossings, dropped kerbs, tactile paving and guard rails.

Further work will also see the 30-year-old signalised junction modernised and there will also be a traffic control system to help manage traffic flows in the area.

Local councillor John Hardy welcomed the measures because of his concerns about pedestrian safety at the junction.

Coun Hardy (Lab, Farnley and Wortley) said: “I have been campaigning for action to be taken at this location because of concerns over pedestrian safety.

“We are seeing more and more traffic on this road and I genuinely believe that the safety of pedestrians is being put at risk.

“I am delighted that the highways department have recognised this and are now working hard to get these essential improvements in place for the New Year.”
