This fascinating archive footage shows the incredible scale of a sports day held to celebrate Leeds Children’s Festival in the summer of 1947.

Thousands of youngsters gathered in Roundhay Park to give perfectly-choreographed demonstrations of drill and dance and compete in sack, obstacle and running races.

Local dignitaries are seen enjoying the spectacle in the short film, which was produced by British Pathe, and there is a large crowd of family members watching the children put on a show.

Are you one of the children featured in the footage, or do you recognise a relative? Email copydesk.yorkshire@jpress.co.uk with your memories of the day.
