Fresh from it’s £8.1m revamp, Wakefield Westgate railway station officially opened its doors to new passengers this weekend.

Just 300 yards north of the old site, the new station officially opened for business at 7.30am, the same time the old one closed for good.

East Coast projects director Tim Hedley-Jones said: “We are delighted to be opening the new Westgate station. It will offer the latest customer facilities.”
