Wakefield: Bus lane scheme will lead to more delays

Traffic disruption is set to hit Wakefield city centre when a three-month scheme gets underway.

Work to lengthen the bus priority scheme on the Springs was due to start yesterday.

The construction is scheduled to take around 12 weeks, according to Wakefield Council.

The bus limits along Westmorland Street will be extended to improve journey times for passengers.

The planned work will start with the closure of Lower Warrengate at the junction of Kirkgate for a period of three weeks.

Traffic will be diverted via Sun Lane whilst the islands on the Springs and Kirkgate are removed.

A council spokesman said the work had been timed to start after the Christmas holidays to minimise disruption over the festive season.
