Video: Van explodes in Leeds city centre

Roads are closed in Leeds city centre after a van went up in flames after a suspected gas explosion.

The incident – at the junction of East Street, Crown Point Road and The Calls near the Ibis hotel – happened shortly before 2pm, sending plumes of black smoke billowing over the city.

Firefighters and police are at the scene and surrounding roads are closed.

The driver has been taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

No-one else was injured but the fire is causing significant traffic issues and may have caused damaged to the road surface.
