Key Fisheries was named the YEP's Chip Shop of the Year last year.

We will relaunch our popular Chip Shop of the Year search next week following on from the success of last year’s city-wide hunt.

Key Fisheries, which is in Seacroft, came out on top last year after netting votes from hundreds of loyal customers who supported their bid to claim first plaice.

Javid Barardoust-Kari, who is the owner of Key Fisheries, said: “Winning this competition was important for me and my customers.

“We got a lot of support from them and often they would come in and say they have just voted for us.

“We have a close relationship with our regulars and they were very excited about us winning the competition.

“I’m so proud of what we have achieved.”

Javid opened Key Fisheries in 2008 with business partner Caroline Ghobadi and over the years it has expanded.

The duo believe that the recipe to their success is the customer service they provide as well as their love of fresh produce.

Mr Barardoust-Kari added: “We’re also hoping to maybe change the range of food available in the next couple months to get more variety on the menu which should hopefully interest our consumers.”

Readers will be given the chance to nominate their favourite fish and chip shops by filling in a coupon which will appear in the YEP next week.
