A spoof music video encouraging young people to brush their teeth has raised a smile in Leeds.

Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust’s (LCH) community dental team have created a catchy cover of Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’ track with a rewritten version called ‘All About That Paste’.

The tongue-in-cheek short film shares messages on how to brush, how much toothpaste to use, flossing and general oral hygiene.

The film follows an increase in awareness of oral health issues among young people in Yorkshire, highlighted by Channel 4’s ‘Junk Food Kids’ documentary earlier this year. In Leeds and Wakefield nearly one in five three-year-olds suffer from decay.

In 2013/14 26,000 children had to go to hospital to have rotten teeth removed under general anaesthetic in Britain, largely as a result of poor diet and a lack of tooth brushing.

LCH’s community dental service provides NHS dental care for those who have treatment needs that can’t be met in a general dental practice. Many patients have physical, sensory or medical issues.
