Fireworks and stilt walkers delighted crowds tonight at an event to mark the £9 million refurbishment of a city centre car park.

The ‘firework extravaganza’ was organised by CitiPark, whose flagship site next to the Merrion Centre is the official car park for the First Direct Arena.

The firm, which also has three other car parks in Leeds, was previously known as Town Centre Car Parks but has now been re-branded.

The newly-refurbished car park has automatic number plate recognition systems, LED lighting and pay-as-you-go parking.

Tonight’s event included a firework display choreographed to music and a light show at the front of the car park.

Ben Ziff, managing director at CitiPark, said: “Our Merrion Centre car park is our flagship branch with nearly 1,000 spaces and we are extremely proud of what we have achieved.”
