MOUNTAIN rescue teams searching for a 64-year-old walker from Leeds who was missing in Snowdonia have recovered his body.

Stephen Dennis Longfellow, who had been walking in Snowdonia, had not been seen since Sunday August 30.

North Wales Police said this morning that mountain rescue teams found his body on Tryfan late yesterday afternoon.

A spokesman for the force said: “He was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor where he was later formally identified. The North West Wales Coroner has been informed.”

Mr Longfellow was last seen when he spoke with walkers in Llanfihangel y Pennant, Gwynedd at around 4pm last Sunday

Police said he told the group that he would attempt to walk on Tryfan or the Snowdon Horseshoe, but had not contacted his family or friends since then.

Fears were raised by Mr Longfellow’s family when he failed to return home on Thursday.
