A man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder following a stabbing.

Ainars Vitolnieks, 26, appeared at Wakefield and Pontefract Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

He is accused of stabbing a 36-year-old man at a property on Greaves Avenue, Lupset, at around 6.10pm on Tuesday.

Richard Ogen, prosecuting, asked for the case to be sent straight to Leeds Crown Court owing to the seriousness and nature of the offence.

Martyn Lord, defending, made no application for bail and no indication of plea was given during the short hearing.

Philip Dixon, bench chairman, remanded Vitolnieks, of Greaves Avenue, Lupset, in custody until he appears at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, October 16.
