Two Leeds restaurants are bidding to be crowned the region’s best takeaway at a national awards night.

Last year’s finalist La Besi, an Italian based in Woodhouse Moor, and fish and chip shop The Great Yorkshireman on Kirkstall Road are both nominated in the Great British Takeaway Awards.

Run in association with delivery app Just Eat, the ceremony celebrates the diversity of the UK’s hot food outlets.

Diners have been voting online for their favourites, with those topping the customer polls going through to the final.

Also in the running are The Sweetie People in Bradford, Catch Seafood in Halifax, and rivals in Sheffield, Doncaster, Cleethorpes and Selby.

Public voting is open until October 24, when the top five from the shortlist will go through to the national final at the Savoy in London.

The overall winner will take home £5,000 and free membership of the Just Eat service, while the regional winners will each receive £1,000.
