A hit-and-run driver fled after mounting a pavement and mowing down two men in Leeds.

Police are investigating after the pair, aged 21 and 27, were hit from behind while walking along Oldfield Lane, near to Wortley Heights flats in Wortley, at about 1.40pm on Sunday.

Both men hit the windscreen, which smashed, before the car drove off along Oldfield Lane towards Asda.

The men were taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment to their injuries and were later discharged.

Det Con Sarah Banks, of Leeds CID, said: “This incident could clearly have had more serious consequences for the two men involved. I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information should call Det Con Banks at Elland Road via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
