Lorry driver falls ill at wheel and dies after hitting lamppost in Leeds

A lorry driver who died after his truck hit a lamppost in Leeds is thought to have fallen ill at the wheel.

The 52-year-old, from Bradford, was driving a Renault heavy goods vehicle on the A653 Dewsbury Road in Tingley on Thursday night.

He left the road and collided with the lamppost near the junction with the A650 Bradford Road at the White Bear roundabout at about 8.20pm.

Emergency services attended but he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
