A man from Leeds has died almost a month after the car he was travelling in hit a lamp post.

David Thompson, of Tingley, was a passenger in a BMW M3 that crashed off the A650 Wrenthorpe bypass in Wakefield on April 18.

The 35-year-old and the 27-year-old man who was driving were taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where Mr Thompson died on Wednesday.

The driver remains in a critical condition.

Police said the vehicle was the only car involved in the incident.

Several bouquets of flowers were left on the grass verge and tied to a lamp post near to where the crash happened.

One tribute said: “Dave, rest in peace. I’m absolutely devastated.

“Wishing your family all the love and support they will need. You will be missed buddy.”

Another said: “RIP mate. Heartbroken. Love from Rob.”
