A child was taken to hospital with suspected serious head and chest injuries after he was hit by a car today.

West Yorkshire Police officers were called to Conway Street in Harehills after the boy, aged nine, was involved in a collision with a white Mitsubishi car near the junction with Harehills Road at around 10.25am.

The boy was alone at the time of the incident and spoke no English and it took some time to identify him.
