A biker has died after a crash with a refuse lorry in Leeds.

The incident happened at around 6.20am on Tingley Common, where a red Dennis refuse wagon and a white and red Yamaha YZF motorcycle collided near to Capitol Boulevard.

The motorcyclist, a 44-year-old man, was treated for his injuries, but died at the scene.

Detective Constable Kerry Gibson of the West Yorkshire Police major collision enquiry team said: “I would appeal for anyone who was travelling along the A650 around the time of the incident this morning who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision, or who witnessed the collision itself to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”

The road was closed in both directions between the M62 junction 28 and the A6029 Rein Road junction while an investigation took place.

The also caused delays on the M62 around junction 28, with motorists advised to find alternative routes.
