Arrest over crash which killed Leeds man

A man has been arrested over a crash which killed a man from Leeds.

David Thompson, 35, of Tingley, suffered fatal injuries when the BMW M3 he was a passenger in came off the A650 Wrenthorpe Bypass, in Wakefield, and hit a tree and a lamppost.

The incident happened on Saturday, April 18, but Mr Thompson did not die until May 13.

The 27-year-old driver of the BMW remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police are understood to be investigating whether another car, a silver Mitsubishi, was involved leading up to the incident and a 21-year-old man from Wakefield has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He is on bail pending further enquiries.

Enquiries into the collision are continuing and anyone who witnessed it is asked to contact the major collision enquiry team on 101.
