Three people were rescued today from a flat fire in Leeds.

Fire crews were called to the first floor property above a shop on Fairburn Drive, Garforth, just before 7.20am.

The trapped occupants were rescued from the flat using a ladder and left in the care of paramedics, said a West Yorkshire brigade spokeswoman.

She told the Yorkshire Evening Post the early indications were that the incident was a kitchen fire.

Fire crews from Garforth, Gipton and Stanks attended.
