The YEP wants your spooky stories for Halloween

Budding young writers could have their own gruesome tale published in the Yorkshire Evening Post in our Halloween story competition.

Plus the winner of this year’s Spooky Story contest will enjoy a meal for four at the handmade burger co in the White Rose Shopping Centre.

Children aged 16 and under are being asked to write 250 words of petrifying prose.

The story should start with these paragraphs which are not included in the word count.

It was already dark when Joanne headed home. For some reason all the street lights had suddenly gone off and all around her was pitch black.

Oh why did I leave it so late, she thought with a shiver, especially as it was Halloween.

A spokesman for the handmade burger co, said: “We are delighted to be involved with the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Halloween competition. Halloween is a fun time for the family and handmade burger Co is obsessed with providing a family friendly environment and always keen to participate in family friendly activities.”

All entrants must have parental permission and should include their name, age and contact details for a parent or guardian. Entries must be received by Monday October 26.

Entries could appear both in the Yorkshire Evening Post and also online and usual Johnston Press rules apply. Winners will enjoy a main, side and a drink for each person.
