Excited shopaholics flocked in their hundreds to the opening of Leeds’s new flagship clothes store.

The Topshop and Topman store on Briggate became the first big name to open its doors as part of the city’s landmark Trinity Leeds retail development yesterday.

Celebrity guest DJs including model Pixie Geldof were invited to the launch of the sprawling, 31,000 sq ft store, as eager crowds clamoured to be the first fashionistas to get a look at what was on offer.

And shop bosses said they are promising the full VIP treatment in the biggest store of its kind outside the capital.

Store manager Vicky Libbish told the YEP: “Topshop Topman is delighted to be the first to open in the Trinity Leeds complex.

“We’re proud that there is a new bespoke, 31,000 sq ft store on the site that first opened on Briggate in 1978.

“We’re committed to delivering the most up-to-date services to our loyal Yorkshire fanbase.”

Queues of around 250 people gathered outside the shop ahead of it opening yesterday morning.

Spread across three floors, the store will feature a personal shopping service, where customers will have their own fashion expert to help pick the perfect outfit.

Shoppers will also be able to order goods online and then pick them up in store for the first time.

The massive refit has also seen the shop double its customer service team, creating the first new local retail jobs as part of the Trinity Leeds development.

To celebrate the opening, from now until Sunday, members of the shop team will also be handing out gift cards to lucky customers.

The rest of the exciting Trinity Leeds complex is set to open next year.

Taking in Briggate, Albion Street and Commercial Street, the complex will cover one million square feet over three levels and include 120 shops, stores, restaurants and cafes.

Top retailers already signed up include Hollister, Mango, H&M, Next and River Island as well as a new three-floor Primark.

The development will also include two roof-top restaurants. For more updates on Trinity Leeds, visit: www.trinityleeds.com
