Police have released a picture of the teenager who died after his motorbike was involved in a serious crash last week.

Kevin Patrick Thornton, 19, was riding along Broad Lane, South Kirkby, in the direction of the village when he was in collision with a grey Ford Focus travelling towards South Elmsall.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3pm last Monday, June 27.

Mr Thornton, who was from South Kirkby, was taken to hospital by air ambulance but later died from his injuries.

His motorbike had been travelling behind another, which did not stop at the scene.

Before the collision occurred reports had been received of two motorbikes being ridden in an anti-social manner in the South Elmsall and South Kirkby areas.

It is believed that these could be the motorcycles involved in the collision.

A 17-year-old male was arrested and released on police bail.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision and anyone who saw either of the two motorcycles or the car.

Anyone with information is asked to the contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101, quoting 937 of the 26/6.
