Queues of more than 40 customers at a time have been trying to get their hands on free sandwiches in Leeds.

Subway is offering a free six-inch sub to any customer who buys a drink at its Leeds branches from 11am-7pm today.

And the promotion has seen branches of the chain inundated with hungry crowds.

The Leeds Station outlet had a queue of more than 30 people waiting when the Yorkshire Evening Post visited at lunchtime, while photos show larger waits at other branches.

Twitter users also complained of 40-minute waits during the offer period.

And it could be a busy night for staff at the Elland Road outlet - they'll be serving free subs until 45 minutes before kick-off when Leeds United play Bristol City later.
