Creating thousands of new digital jobs in and around Leeds over the course of the next decade.
That’s the exciting aim of Stephanie Burras, chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP)’s employment and skills panel.
She said: “Growth in the sector is booming thanks to significant investment from both the private and academic sectors including Sky’s rapid expansion in Leeds, the University of York’s Quantum Technology Hub and Bradford’s Digital Health Enterprise Zone – a partnership between the University of Bradford, the council, the government and BT to bring together the experts and search for excellence in helping to prevent and manage long-term health issues.
“At a time when the North’s digital economy is creating jobs at 10 times the rate of non-digital jobs, these strengths mean that Leeds city region is ideally placed to take advantage of the phenomenal growth in the sector.
“Our ambition is to create an additional 15,000 digital jobs in Leeds city region by 2025.”
The Leeds city region includes the digital powerhouse that is Leeds itself as well as surrounding areas such as Bradford, Wakefield and Kirklees.
The YEP recently launched a new Digital City platform in partnership with Sky Betting & Gaming.
The platform is designed to highlight the giant strides being made by a sector that boasts around 3,000 organisations in Leeds
