A POPULAR festival was revived in Castleford at the weekend to show people what life was like in the town 2,000 years ago.

The area’s Roman heritage was marked with events in the town centre and at Queen’s Mill.

Now in its second year, Castleford Roman Festival, in partnership with Queen’s Mill, offered educational and fun activities with a modern twist.

As part of the celebrations there will be Roman re-enactments, animal displays including horses and birds of prey and gladiator training for children.

The family friendly event also included a Roman-themed and shadow puppets workshop.
