SHOPPERS will be in for a surprise this weekend as a live music stage will be set up on one of the busiest streets in Leeds.

Bands will perform from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday, April 30, as part of the Live at Leeds Festival.

The event, which is now in its 10th year, will bring music to Briggate by hosting its first ever outdoor stage on the street.

The free event will include music from local favourites Glass Caves, as well as Fletcher Jackson, Katie Dean, Party Hardly, Where Fires Are and Colour of Spring.

As well as live music, passersby can also tuck into various street food offerings on the day.

Colin Oliver, managing director at Live at Leeds, said: “We’re really excited about adding this additional stage to Live at Leeds 2016.”

The area is being run in partnership with the Leeds Business Improvement District (BID) and Leeds City Council.

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “It’s great to see Live at Leeds back for another year giving music lovers the chance to experience some fantastic live acts and also giving some of the city’s outstanding musical talent an exciting opportunity to shine.”

The line-up this year features big names including Brit Award-nominee Jess Glynne, Liverpool-four piece Circa Waves, Leeds’s own Corinne Bailey Rae and indie legends We Are Scientists.

Tickets are still available for the festival, which will be held at several city centre venues this weekend.
