A LEEDS restaurant is serving up a new challenge for food fans in Leeds.

American diner Huckleberry’s in Yeadon will host the UK’s first Sloppy Joe Eating Championship on Monday, August 29.

A ‘Sloppy Joe’ is an American dish that includes a burger-style sandwich with minced beef filling, tomato sauce and spices.

The person that eats the most in 30 minutes will take home a £1,000 cash prize.

Co-owner Sarah Rowlands said: “Competitive eating is a big part of American culture and is growing in popularity.”

Some of the UK’s best professional challenge eaters will also be taking part in the competition.
