Music has been the sole passion for Kelly Mueller since she was seven years old, and when she was signed by international label Universal Records she thought her dreams had come true.

The talented singer/songwriter, whose stage name is Kell on Urth, has spent time living in Los Angeles and London working on projects with the likes of Ne-Yo and The Script but her own album failed to materialise.

After three years with Universal, the 27-year-old, who lives in Darrington, near Pontefract, decided to go it alone and is hoping to release her first album Illuminate through the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

Having recorded the tracks and raised almost half of the £2,300 needed to fund its release already, Kelly is hoping the region will support her bid to turn six years of songwriting into an album.

Kelly, who describes her music as emotional pop, said: “It’s really frustrating but my parents are really supportive and they prefer me living here.

“If they had a preference it would be that I didn’t want to do music as it’s such a cut-throat industry but you can’t change what you love.”

Her use of the Kickstarter website, where people fund entrepreneurial projects in exchange for rewards, means her album must reach its funding target by August 11 to go ahead.
