‘Sick at wheel’ van driver dies in Leeds crash

A van driver died after after he ran into a grass verge having apparently fallen ill at the wheel.

The 63-year-old Leeds man lost control of his Mercedes Sprinter on Rudgate in Wetherby on Thursday. (July 18)

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 1.35pm.

The van, which was travelling north to south, left the carriageway and went into a grass verge. No other vehicles were involved.

The man was taken to hospital but later died.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Sgt Carl Quinn of the major collision enquiry team on 101.
