Selfless Leeds volunteers rewarded for giving extra

Two Leeds volunteers who have gone the extra mile for their communities have been recognised nationally.

John Thompson (pictured), from Morley, was nominated by his son Ian for his 10 years of voluntary service to keep the St Gemma’s Hospice charity shop in Morley running. The 78-year-old has been unveiled as a Halifax Giving Extra Award winner for his work helping the Moortown hospice that supports terminally ill patients.

Garforth resident David Richardson was also given an award for being a vital volunteer for Garforth Lions, helping to organise and run events such as galas and bonfires over 12 years.
