Singing star Sam Bailey is ready to make sure next month’s Christmas lights switch-on party in Leeds really hits the high notes.

Sam, last year’s winner of TV’s X Factor, was today announced as headliner for the eagerly-awaited event on Thursday, November 13.

She will join another one-time X Factor act, classical singers G4, in the line-up for the big switch-on.

And Leicester lass Sam is already counting down the days until she takes to the stage in Victoria Gardens.

She said: “I’m so excited to turn the Leeds Christmas lights on, it’s a real honour.

“Christmas is such a special time in our household and I can’t wait to get the festive season started.”

Expected to attract a 15,000-strong crowd and getting under way at 7pm, the lights extravaganza is being organised by Leeds City Council and radio station Heart and counts the Yorkshire Evening Post as a media partner.

Other guests confirmed to appear include Yorkshire boy band My Forever and children’s TV presenter Rebecca Keatley.

A number of as-yet-unnamed sporting stars will also be in attendance.

Coun Lucinda Yeadon, the council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that last year’s hugely popular winner of X Factor Sam Bailey will be performing at the fantastic Leeds lights Christmas switch-on.

“Sam will also be joined on the night by a tremendous line-up of entertainment, as we look forward to starting the city’s countdown to Christmas in front of what is always a packed and brilliant crowd.”

Accessible viewing options for the disabled will be provided along with British Sign Language interpreters, a disabled people’s toilet and access to the Leeds Art Gallery shop Changing Places toilet.
