Leeds digital marketing and SEO agency Blueclaw has been getting a first-hand insight into the impact of the start of Google’s global roll-out of its Penguin 4.0 algorithm update.
Penguin is a sophisticated filter that is specifically designed to detect and penalise websites that use spam to artificially inflate their search engine results page rankings.
Blueclaw says that, since last month’s roll-out announcement, there has been a noticeable surge in the number of local firms seeking advice about the algorithm update and how it might affect the way they operate.
Blueclaw’s marketing director, Martin Calvert, said: “For some companies the news that Google will be constantly checking and re-checking websites for spam and bad customer experience will be good news – they’ll be rewarded for their SEO best practice faster, rather than having to wait for a manual update.
“Of course, those that have been getting away with some dubious tactics will have to change quickly – but it feels like the message has been received in Leeds.”
