THE funeral of a popular Leeds man who was found in the River Aire after going missing on a night out will be held on Monday. (March 28)

As reported in the YEP, 30-year-old Rob Stoner, from Swarcliffe, who was known to friends as Gunner, sparked a four-day search when he went missing after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of February 26.

His body was found by police close to Victoria Bridge on March 2.

Mr Stoner’s funeral will be held at St Luke’s Church, Stanks Lane North, Swarcliffe, on Monday at 10.45am.

An inquest opening heard that the warehouseman was last seen crossing Water Lane after a night out in The Factory nightclub.

Det Insp Nicholas Wallen told Leeds Coroner’s Court that a broken fence opposite the nightclub led to a “fast-flowing culvert” of water, near where Mr Stoner’s body was found.

Coroner David Hinchliff adjourned the inquest pending further enquiries and issued an interim death certificate.
