IT IS perhaps the obvious choice for such an intricate chocolate creation.

For his latest festive work, chef Ashley McCarthy has turned his attention to some of Roald Dahl’s most famous characters - which of course include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Other figures on the chocolate sculpture, which will be given to children at Martin House Hospice in Wetherby, include James the Giant Peach and Fantastic Mr Fox.

Mr McCarthy, who works at the Sun Inn in Colton, near York, spent more than 40 hours making the chocolate sculptures. He has made a themed chocolate display every Christmas for the past decade which is then given to the Martin House Hospice at Wetherby for a festive display before young patients then eat it on Christmas day.

This year’s scene was made from 20 kilogrammes of chocolate and five kilogrammes of icing.
