Train operator Northern has unveiled its first partly-refurbished train in its multi-million pound fleet refurbishment programme.

The train is going into service on the York to Blackpool route, which passes through Leeds station. As well as an external revamp, the carriages have been repainted, new carpets laid, and seat cushions replaced.

Alex Hynes of Northern, said: “There are still plenty of improvements to come, including the installation of free customer WiFi, but we think our customers will agree this is a great start.”

Some 281 new carriages will be introduced by Northern as Pacer trains are removed from service.
