Two RAF fighter jets have been scrambled to intercept a French aircraft over the English Channel.

The two Typhons were scrambled from RAF Coningsby airbase to intercept a French aircraft over the Channel this afternoon.

The aircraft was said to have suffered a loss of communication with air traffic control.
