A DEMONSTRATION was staged outside Leeds Civic Hall as part of a day of strike action by staff from Lawnswood Crematorium.

Four members of the Unison trade union say claims of harassment, bullying and unsafe working conditions have been ignored.

They also say that two members of the union are now being threatened with “serious disciplinary action”.

Unison regional organiser Dean Harper said that he was “deeply concerned” by the latest developments in the long-running dispute with Leeds City Council.

Speaking ahead of today’s (Jan 16) strike action, a spokesman for the council described the walkout as “deeply regrettable and disappointing”.

The spokesman added: “We have worked extremely hard to resolve issues raised by those concerned.”
