Pontefract Park was transformed into a sea of pink as hundreds of women completed the annual Race for Life.

Runners, united in their bid to beat cancer, walked or ran through the park, supported by friends and family who watched on from the sidelines on Sunday. (July 20)

Organisers are hoping the event will raise more than £100,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The event, run in partnership with Tesco, saw women from across the area take on either a 5k or 10k route around the park.

Last year, 1,930 women took part in the race and raised £98,500 but organisers are hoping to raise more than £100,000 following this year’s event.
