It was play time for government minister Simon Hughes during a visit to a nursery in Leeds.

The Lib Dem justice minister was at the City and Holbeck Children’s Centre in Beeston to promote a scheme to provide less well-off parents with 15 hours of free childcare a week. From next week, about 40 per cent of two-year-olds will be eligible for free early education – up from 20 per cent last year.

Mr Hughes played with children and spoke to staff and parents during his visit.
