Long-term plan for Leeds short-stay car park

Operators of a temporary city centre car park are seeking permission to extend its use for another three years.

Elite Parking secured the rights to use the land at the junction of Aire Street and Wellington Street as a short-stay car park in 2014.

The existing permission runs out at the end of this month, but the company has applied to Leeds City Council for a three-year extension and for the land – next to Leeds railway station – to be available to drivers around the clock.

According to the application: “Those using our short-stay car park are spending money in Leeds city centre, contributing to the local economy.”

The company says the landowner could terminate the agreement at any time if they wanted to build on the site.
