Labour party supporters in Leeds have been urged to Vote No to election reform.

Labour Don Valley MP Caroline Flint joined Coun Ian Greenwood, leader of Bradford Council, Coun Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council and Coun Jim McKenna, the Lord Mayor of Leeds to launch the Labour No to AV campaign in Millennium Square.

The referendum on the same day as local elections on May 5 will ask voters whether they want to replace the current first-past-the-post system, where the candidate with the most votes wins, with the Alternative Vote, where candidates are ranked in order of preference.

Under AV, the second preferences of defeated candidates are redistributed until one winning candidate receives 50 per cent of the vote.
