In a rare move, the leaders of the six different political groups represented on Leeds City Council have issued a joint statement to reassure residents that councillors are still available to help, support and represent Leeds residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The political group leaders of the Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Green, Morley Borough Independents, and Garforth and Swillington Independents groups said: “We would like to let the people of Leeds know that their elected councillors all across the city remain available to help, support and represent them during these extremely challenging times.

Council business such as planning, licensing and scrutiny committees have been postponed due to the pandemic. The council is still awaiting emergency powers from government which would allow the meetings to take place remotely.
The statement concluded: “COVID-19 has already affected the lives of everyone in Leeds in some way, so it is more important than ever that elected representatives are available to support their communities during these troubling times. We are here to help so please do get in touch.”
