Go-ahead for Leeds city centre project

Planning chiefs have thrown their backing behind the creation of a new office building which will help complete the regeneration of a key city centre spot.

The new six-storey offices at Sovereign Square, on the corner of Swinegate and Sovereign Street, will represent the next phase in the revamp of the former Queen’s Hall site.

The building, to be built on land which is currently a car park, is part of a trio of projects at Sovereign Square.

Construction works are due to finish this summer on the new regional office for professional services firm KPMG, and work on a new green space is imminent.

Rubberstamping the proposal yesterday (June 27), members of the City Plans Panel praised the design and its “juxtaposition of glass and brick”.
