an event to be held in Leeds this Friday will consider the possibility of the UK reaching a ‘progressive Brexit’.
The ‘Armley Café Politique’ event will be held at the city centre campus of Leeds Beckett University.
Guests will include Hilary Benn, who is Labour MP for Leeds Central and chair of the House of Commons Committee on Exiting the European Union.
Other speakers will include Jon Bloomfield, honorary research fellow at Birmingham University and author of The Left and Brexit: Facing up to the realities of an interdependent world. The event will be chaired by Dr Sophia Price, Head of Politics and International Relations at Leeds Beckett University.
Entry to the session is free but registration in advance is required via https://pirfestival2017.eventbrite.co.uk.
The debate is part of the annual Festival of Politics and International Relations at Leeds Beckett. Topics of debate will include Prime Minister Theresa May’s “Brexit means Brexit” mantra and the progress of negotiations; discussion of the clarity - or not - of the Government’s vision of Brexit; the implications of a ‘no deal’ outcome; and how and alternative ‘progressive Brexit’ can be formulated and achieved?
The festival programme, running throughout this week, includes daily talks, debates and workshops.
