Police searching for distressed girl taken by man while 'crying for mummy' in Leeds

Officers are trying to trace a young girl who was in a distressed state before being led away by a man near Leeds city centre.

The child - aged three or four-years-old - was spotted crying for her mother near the Crown Point retail park in Leeds at around 2.20pm yesterday (Sunday).

Police said a man was trying to lead the girl away with him before eventually taking hold of her and walking along Waterloo Street.

The man walked off with the girl in the direction of Hunslet Road.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "This could be a completely innocent situation with the child and male being related and no criminal offences being committed.

"The child is described as white female, 3-4 years old, blonde hair, wearing pink jacket, grey tights.

"The adult male is described as white, late 20's/early 30's, dark spikey hair, blue/black 3/4 length coat, light green or blue shoulder bag."
